Indonesia Masters: Pearly-Thinaah go down fighting in final

JAKARTA, Jan 26 — Top national shuttlers Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah narrowly lost to a South Korean pair in the Indonesia Masters 2025 women’s doubles final today.

After losing the first game tamely at 12-21 to Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong, the Malaysians came back strongly to win the second at 21-17 and force a rubber game.

The two pairs gave the crowd at the Istora Senayan Sports Complex plenty to cheer as they fought point-for-point in the deciding game, which the Koreans won 21-18 to take the match in 74 minutes.

The Koreans earned US$37,525 (RM164,359) for the victory while Tan-Thinaah walked away with US$18,050 (RM79,059).

Speaking to the press after the match, Tan expressed disappointment over the defeat but admitted that they lost to a better pair.

“They were physically stronger. We still have plenty of room for improvement. In the final game, they were more composed and stable than us.

“But we are satisfied with our communication and fought hard for points without giving up,” she said.

Thinaah thanked the local fans for their support and said her focus will now shift to tournaments in Europe in March.
