Kg Desa Aman riverbank upgrades get RM1 mln boost to combat erosion, floods

SUNGAI BULOH, Jan 22 — RM1 million has been allocated for the upgrading works on a 400-metre stretch of riverbank in Kampung Desa Aman within the Bukit Lanjan state constituency.

Its state assemblyman Pua Pei Ling said the first phase was completed in 2023 for RM500,000, while the remaining amount for the second phase is currently being utilised, with the works expected to be completed by Tuesday (January 28).

“Both phases of this upgrading project are fully funded by the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

“The purpose of the upgrades is due to frequent flooding, which has caused erosion along the riverbanks and poses a risk to approximately 100 residential units in the surrounding area,” she said.

Pua was speaking to the press after inspecting the riverbank upgrading project at Kampung Desa Aman yesterday.

She is also hopeful that the upgrading works will be completed before the Chinese New Year celebrations to ensure greater comfort and safety for the residents.

“I hope this project’s upgrades will help reduce flooding incidents and prevent land erosion, which could jeopardise the safety of the residents.

“Hopefully, the project can be completed before Chinese New Year; it would be like a big angpao for them, as the majority of the residents in this village are of Chinese descent,” Pua said.
