Kuala Kubu Baharu residents gather to make traditional nian gao for CNY

KUALA KUBU BHARU, Jan 13 — It is tradition for Kuala Kubu Baharu residents to make nian gao together ahead of Chinese New Year, and this year was no different.

Assemblyman Pang Sock Tao said the 12-year tradition is a symbol of unity and cooperation in the local community.

“Every year, the young generation gather to prepare nian gao ingredients until late night, and cook until early morning.

“I support these youths by visiting them and funding their effort, to showcase the importance of practising our ancestral traditions,” she told Media Selangor.

The three-day, two-night effort at Kampung Assam Kumbang involved tens of youth and Kuala Kubu Baharu Village Development and Safety Committee members.
