Malaysian Red Crescent names Danial Iskandar acting sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — Dato’ Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman has been appointed Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) acting secretary-general, succeeding Hakim Hamzah, effective January 1.

With extensive experience in both corporate and humanitarian sectors, Danial brings a wealth of expertise in organisational development and strategic leadership. Highly regarded for his commitment to building partnerships, he has been instrumental in forging strong collaborations between the MRC and key stakeholders including government agencies, corporate entities, non-governmental organisations, and international partners.

Working closely with the MRC governing board under the leadership of Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, Tunku Temenggong Kedah and MRC national chairperson, Danial will continue advancing the organisation’s strategic priorities in alignment with the MRC Strategy 2030. This roadmap focuses on addressing critical humanitarian challenges such
as climate and environmental crises; evolving crises and disasters; growing gaps in health and well-being; migration, identity and values; and power and inclusion.

Danial is set to strengthen MRC’s capabilities in disaster preparedness and response, enhance health services, and accelerate climate adaptation efforts. These initiatives will be driven by a commitment to the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement — humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.

Danial said: “I am honoured to lead an organisation rooted in compassion, resilience and service. Guided by the MRC Strategy 2030 and the values of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, we will harness innovation and collaboration to address humanitarian needs effectively. Together with our dedicated volunteers, staff and partners, we will continue to expand our reach, improve our impact and ensure no one is left behind in the face of humanitarian challenges.”

The MRC extends its gratitude to Hakim Hamzah for his service and contributions during his tenure as secretary-general. His efforts have significantly supported the organisation’s work and its continued growth.

This leadership transition marks a significant step forward for the MRC as it continues its mission to deliver impactful humanitarian actions across Malaysia and beyond.
