SEREMBAN, Jan 24 — Sustainability issues should be incorporated into the national education curriculum to produce a generation that is aware of climate change and natural resources, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said education plays the main role in shaping the behaviour and mindset of the younger generation towards the importance of caring about nature.
“Sustainability issues should become part of the curriculum, whether the supplementary curriculum or indirectly through programmes and activities (at school),” he added.

He was speaking at the Institut Aminuddin Baki Madani Executive Talk: Education Leaders Interpret the Malaysia Madani Agenda, which was attended by over 800 people, here today.
Amirudin said close cooperation between the state government, Education Ministry and schools must be strengthened to realise this effort, for a sustainable future.
“Other than handling basic issues, understanding, and the philosophy around bigger issues such as science, technology and mathematics, the issue that we clearly should handle is the generational awareness of nature issues and integrity,” he said.
