Selangor to hold CNY celebration in Jenjarom on Feb 8

KUALA LANGAT, Jan 22 — The Selangor government will hold the state’s Chinese New Year celebration on February 8 at the Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple grounds in Jenjarom here.

State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin are scheduled to grace the event, which is set to draw over 30,000 visitors.

He said the celebration, to be held in collaboration with Invest Selangor Bhd, is also in conjunction with the Lantern Festival and Floral Exhibition, which will run from January 25 to February 12, covering an area of about 15ha.

“This Chinese New Year celebration reflects the spirit of goodwill, diversity and togetherness among the people of Selangor, showcasing openness and inclusivity in celebrating Malaysia’s festivals.

“One of the main attractions will be a 22m ‘giant lantern’ inspired by the Legend of the White Snake, as well as a 28-foot (8.5m) ‘Selangor lantern’ following the theme of the Year of the Snake,” he said at a press conference on the state Chinese New Year celebration here today.

Ng said other attractions include the Lumbini Garden, surrounded by stunning orchid displays and koi ponds, with the entire area adorned with red lanterns, LED lights and colourful 3D structures.

Three thousand free parking spaces will be provided on the temple grounds for the public to attend the celebration.

The celebration will be held in two sessions, with the first starting at 5.30pm and the second at 8.30pm, he said.
