SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 — The 2026 Selangor Malaysian Games (Sukma) XXII and Para Sukma XXII Management Committee has set the biennial sporting event for August 2026.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the committee is considering the Sepang International Circuit as a venue for the opening and closing ceremonies for Sukma 2026, and the MBPJ Stadium for the Para Sukma 2026 opening and closing ceremonies.

Najwan, who also heads the 2026 Selangor Sukma and Para Sukma Implementing Committee, said: “The committee decided that the secretariat will inspect all facilities and sports infrastructure statewide to assess their usability.

“It is also to identify problems that need to be addressed and immediately upgraded,” he said in a statement on Facebook today.

Earlier, at the committee meeting that was chaired by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, it was decided that 28 sporting events will be contested at Sukma 2026, with five more set to be announced.

For Para Sukma 2026, 10 events will be contested.

“Terms and conditions of the contest will be announced soon,” he said.

Selangor last hosted Sukma in 1998.

In the 2025 Selangor State Budget, Amirudin announced an RM6 million allocation for a sports development programme in preparation for Sukma 2026.

He said the state estimates that over RM150 million has been allocated for the prestigious games, as well as the utilisation of 90 per cent of sports infrastructure in Selangor.
