SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — Some 29 residents’ associations and individuals in the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) administrative area have been recognised for their environmental efforts and honoured with the Mini Clean Zone Community Green (Mini Zee Bee) Award 2024.
The recipients take home a total of RM66,000 in cash prizes, along with plaques and certificates of appreciation, in recognition of their exceptional commitment to environmental preservation and the creation of green neighbourhoods.
Shah Alam acting Deputy Mayor Madiyan Baweh said the award aims to recognise and appreciate the community’s efforts in enhancing a harmonious lifestyle through the creation of green, clean, and healthy environments.

“This competition focuses on cleanliness, best practices, innovation, creativity, and fostering smart, healthy neighbourhoods that align with the goals of sustainable development.
“It has also successfully introduced the concept of green neighbourhoods and fostered a renewed environment within their respective residential areas,” he said at the award ceremony yesterday night.
The competition, involving five categories, was organised to raise awareness among the community about the importance of environmental preservation and the adoption of sustainable living practices.
Al-Husna Section 20 Residents’ Association chairman Raja Abd Aziz Raja Ahmad said the community’s victory in the ‘champion of champions’ category, along with a cash prize of RM10,000, has significantly boosted their spirit to continue preserving and enhancing their neighbourhood.
He said that since 2007, the community’s environmental sustainability initiatives have included a range of efforts like recycling programmes, freshwater fish farming, and establishing vegetable and fruit gardens, which now provide an additional income source for the surrounding residents.
For Section 17 Residents’ Association chairman Mohd Asri Ismail, winning first place in the open category is expected to further inspire the community spirit and drive ongoing efforts to build a sustainable neighbourhood.
“In this community centre, we have established an automatic drive-through recycling centre, a rainwater harvesting system, a community garden, and even formed football and pickleball teams, which have attracted the participation of approximately 500 residents, including youth,” he said.
