SHAH ALAM, Jan 17 — This year’s Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) will officially be part of the Asean Summit’s programme, marking a significant elevation for the state’s flagship business event.

This is according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who said the state’s other economy-oriented event, the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS), will be rebranded to include new segments and hosted at a new venue.

“Looking ahead, SIBS 2025 will take place in October and will be positioned as one of the official events of the Asean Summit 2025, coinciding with Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean.

“Meanwhile, the SAS may undergo rebranding with various new components, including a potential new venue,” he said on social media today.

Amirudin first announced plans to hold this year’s SIBS as part of the Asean Summit when tabling the 2025 Selangor Budget on November 15 last year.

In 2024, the summit saw a record high of RM13.86 billion in potential transactions, exceeding the state government’s initial target.

The participation of Asean member states and major economies including China, Australia, and the United Kingdom in SIBS has further cemented its status as a premier platform for global business engagement.

SIBS 2024 also marked the first time the event was split into two separate occasions to create a more focused trade environment for participants.

SAS also achieved a historic milestone in 2024, generating RM3.2 billion in potential transactions, the highest since its inception in 2021.

The event attracted 88 leading aerospace and aviation companies and saw the signing of 41 memorandums of understanding, nearly double the number from the previous year.

SAS has been held at the SkyPark Regional Aviation Centre in Subang Jaya since its inauguration.
