SHAH ALAM, Jan 21 — Selangor participated in the recently concluded Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 in Johor Bahru, as part of efforts to promote the Visit Selangor Year campaign and strengthen its position as a premier tourism destination.
In a statement, Tourism Selangor said the initiative is part of its efforts to help the state attract eight million tourists and generate RM11.7 billion in revenue, leveraging strategic collaborations to achieve these goals.
With the theme ‘Surprising Selangor’, key destinations showcased at the forum include the Gombak Hulu Langat Geopark, SplashMania Water Theme Park, Sekinchan paddy field, and Selangor Fruit Valley.
“ATF 2025 serves as an excellent platform to solidify Selangor’s presence in the global tourism market,” the state tourism promotion agency said of the event that was attended by delegations from Asean countries.
The forum was held over six days starting from January 15.
Tourism Selangor said it also anticipated strong sales during the Asean Tourism Exchange Programme (Travex) 2025 session, held in conjunction with ATF 2025.
The agency added that it remains committed to strengthening bilateral relations and launching campaigns that can drive growth in the state’s tourism sector.
Previously, state executive councillor for tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim emphasised Asean’s significance to Selangor’s tourism growth, noting that over 3.2 million tourists arrived in 2023 through the country’s main airports.
According to him, the number of tourists entering Selangor rose by more than 300 per cent compared to 2022, with 12.8 per cent of them coming from Asean countries.
“In conjunction with the launch of Visit Selangor Year 2025, the state government is welcoming travel agencies, airlines, and media partners from across Asean to collaborate with us.
“With this collaboration, the state government, together with other strategic partners, will be able to showcase the diversity of Selangor’s offerings through appealing tourism packages,” he said.
