State urges private sector for more women empowerment incentives — Exco

KLANG, Jan 22 — The state government welcomes more private sector participation in empowering women’s role in Selangor’s economy.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the modern woman is more competitive and can handle any job, including those dominated by men.

“The fight to empower women is a long road. Until now, there is still a vast gender gap in labour force participation.

“This effort needs continued renewal and improvement in addition to cooperation from various parties,” she said at the launch of Swift EmpowHER at Port Klang here yesterday.

The Swift EmpowHER programme, held by Swift Haulage Bhd, offers several attractive incentives for women, including for 10 per cent of logistics drivers to be women.

Swift has 1,600 truck drivers, six of whom are women who just completed the Iron Women programme organised by Volvo Trucks Malaysia.

Anfaal lauded Swift’s incentives and expressed hope that the effort would inspire more companies.

She said the initiative supports women, especially single mothers, to return to the workforce.

“Women in logistics are not just labourers, but play an important role in ensuring the efficiency of supply chains, transport management, and complex operations,” she added.

In May, the state government launched the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026 to raise women’s socio-economic status and autonomy, and close the gender gap at all levels.
