SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has ordered the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) to channel special funds to rehabilitate GISB Holdings members.
The ruler said funds meant for asnaf riqab can be used for that purpose.
“LZS must allocate suitable special funds to rehabilitate this group to correct and set right their aqidah.
“Zakat must be channelled to true asnaf who are eligible for it. The definition of the eight asnaf (categories) must refer to established fatwa,” His Royal Highness said.
Sultan Sharafuddin said this while during the officiation of LZS’ headquarters, Menara Zakat Sultan Idris Shah, here today.

The ruler also reminded the people to fulfil their zakat duty in the states where they work, and expressed concern that zakat collected in Selangor may be distributed in other states.
“I am worried that Selangor, which has a Malay-Muslim majority and 79,000 poor asnaf registered with LZS, would be denied their rights and mistreated without us realising it.
“The Selangor State Fatwa Committee has also issued an edict, gazetted on May 9, 2002, that says all Muslims living or working in Selangor must pay income zakat to Selangor zakat centres,” His Royal Highness said.
