BY: AFIX REDZUAN DENGKIL, AUG 8: The construction of Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Jenderam Hilir is expected to channel 100 million litres of water per day for the consumption of 100,000 people in Semenyih. Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the WTP construction is a part of the State Government’s strategic agenda to ensure that water service industry is more efficient for consumers. “Although it is the Federal Government’s responsibility, the State Government is prepared to use its own reserve for the sake of the citizens, if there is firm cooperation between both governments. “This is a proactive step to face global changes and population increase, which ultimately increases demand for water,” he said on August 8. He said the project, which is a non-political consideration, will certainly benefit Dengkil residents. Mohamed Azmin then boarded a machine for the ground-breaking ceremony to officiate the Semenyih WTP construction project. A total of RM180 million from the 2016 Budget will be spent for on project, which will be a new water source, pending the completion of Langat 2 Project in 2019. The total cost was reduced by 30% of projected amount through an open tender process. Besides supplying water for Semenyih, the Semenyih 2 WTP will also supply water to Beranang, certain parts of Hulu Langat, and also the new development area along the Kajang-Seremban Highway. The State Government is also in the process of constructing a water treatment plant in Labohan Dagang, Kuala Langat with a capacity of 400 million litres of water per day....
Community Farming programme for abandoned agricultural land
BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD SHAH ALAM, AUG 7: Abandoned agricultural land across the state will be utilised via the Community Farming programme, in order to manage the land in a more effective and systematic way. Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-Based Industries Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said that agricultural land has high potential to provide long-term benefits for the state’s revenue and economy. “The programme was created to ensure every inch of abandoned land owned by the State, especially in the urban areas, can be developed. “The programme aims to produce food using modern agricultural technology. “For example, the concept of fertigation for planting in limited land space such as in the urban areas,” he said. He was commenting on the State’s continuous initiative in developing agricultural land which has the potential of contributing towards the state’s economic development. The State Government has been consistent in boosting agricultural activities in the state through various long-term and productive programmes. This includes the 2016 Budget tabled by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, focusing on agriculture across the state. As of now, a total of 156 hectares of agricultural land across the state, including those under the Integrated Agricultural Project, have been developed for several kinds of agricultural crops....
Selangor hosts the International Indigenous Peoples’ Festival

The programme focuses on a variety of performances, with cultural and art exhibitions featuring the Orang Asal community. Participation includes indigenous communities from countries such as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam as well as Malaysia. In conjunction with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the festival is themed ‘Back To The Roots’. Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Exco Elizabeth Wong said such programmes will boost opportunities for tourism in Selangor. “Showcasing arts and culture, it will not only attract tourists but will improve the economic status of orang Asal communities. “It provides the best opportunity for them to become more competitive,” she said in a media statement. Meanwhile, Tourism Selangor Manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din said that the programme provides exposure to the lifestyle of indigenous peoples across the world. “The public is still not very exposed to the lifestyles of this community. Therefore, their welfare continues to be a concern,” she said....

Selangor BN's alleged misuse of public halls
BY: LIZAWATI MADFA SELAYANG, AUG 5: The Selangor opposition has allegedly occupied eight public halls in Rawang and turned the public halls into its political office buildings and branches. According to Local Government, New Village Development and Illegal Factory Legalisation Exco Ean Yong Hian Wah, this is not authorised and did not have the permission and approval of local authorities and Land and District Offices. He said that they have negotiated with the party and have also issued notices, yet the party has refused to cooperate. “We have to take necessary action and be professional about this in order to ensure the public can rightfully use the halls. “There is no issue of inappropriate action on them as these halls were built on government land. “In fact, based on the National Land Code, any building built on government land shall be owned and managed by a government agency,” he said in a media conference. Also present were Rawang Assemblyman Gan Pei Nei and Selayang Municipal Council Yang Dipertua Suliman Abd Rahman. The halls referred to are Dewan MCA Desa Kuala Garing, Dewan MIC Kuala Garing, Dewan MCA Bukit Rawang Jaya, Dewan MCA Bandar Country Homes, Dewan MCA Taman Sri Hijau, Dewan Perpustakaan Kampung Sungai Terentang, Dewan MCA Kampung Lee Kim Sai and Dewan Umno Bandar Country Homes. Ean Yong said most of the halls were built more than 10 years ago, before 2008. “Perhaps as the government, they could do as they liked previously. But now under Pakatan everyone has to follow the law,” he said....
Settle MPK fines for as low as RM15
BY: NORHAYATI UMOR SHAH ALAM, AUG 5: The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) is having a campaign to reduce traffic fines and is urging the public to settle their fines for as low as RM15. The offer is valid until August 31, 2016. Fines included are for parking, obstacles and traffic. MPK Communications Director Norfiza Mahfiz said that the previous offer on fines reduction received encouraging response, with the public taking the opportunity to settle all their outstanding fines. “The campaign will also benefit those who have not paid their old fines, and motivate them to settle by the due date,” she said in a statement on August 5. Norfiza said that the public can also check their fines at the MPK Lobby, Tengku Kelana Branch Office and mobile counters; while payment can be made at any counters provided by the council. “Checking and payment can be done on Saturdays and Sundays at selected supermarkets, such as AEON Bukit Tinggi (August 27–28), Giant Hypermarket Bukit Tinggi (August 6–7) dan Tesco Bukit Tinggi (August 13–14),” he said....
Housing Minister’s broken promise?
BY: NORHAYATI UMOR SHAH ALAM, AUG 5: Tan Sri Noh Omar admitted to breaking his promise to provide RM1.8 million to repair faulty electrical wiring and grills of Kota Damansara Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR). Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Exco Dato’ Iskandar Abdul Samad said Noh withdrew the budget upon the State Government’s announcement regarding the repair works. This contradicted his earlier promise, which he made when he was Selangor Federal Action Council Chairman in January 2015. “The provision was in the State Government Budget but if that was his excuse, well then it is a convenient way of gaining publicity. “Noh had announced the provision for repair works, which were in fact an allocation by State Government. But when we did the work, they (Federal Government) withdrew the budget,” he said. At the same time, Iskandar reiterated his call for Noh to behave like a statesman and not act like a Branch Chief. Noh – who is also the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister – had previously denied breaking his promise to allocate RM1.8 million to repair faulty electrical wires and grills at the Kota Damanasara PPR. “Since the State Government had announced that they will provide a special allocation for this, we postponed giving the money. Meanwhile, the Federal Government had also spent RM800,000 for developments in that PPR area. “It was not that we broke our promise. The question is why didn’t they (State Government) announce (budget) earlier,” he said in a media conference....
MASITF 2016: Selangor as an Islamic holiday destination

The Selangor Malaysian Association of Travel and Trade Association (MATTA) Chairman Mohd Akil Mohd Yusof said MASITF will provide many Islamic holiday packages around the world compared to traditional packages that are more focused on Umrah packages. He said the event is an effective platform for small and medium tour operators and agencies to promote their holiday packages, especially packages focusing on Islamic destinations worldwide. “It will not only promote – but will also sell – packages at special prices; ultimately exposing these agencies to competition in a healthy manner, and achieve international standards by remaining relevant,” he said. He was speaking at the 2016 MASITF media conference at the Royale Bintang Hotel, The Curve, on August 4. Mohd Akil said there will be more than 50 licensed tour agencies and companies, government promotional agencies as well as financial companies, all with various and attractive offers. He added that these agencies will also have the opportunity to hold discussions with other agencies like banks, insurance companies and particularly companies operating in Selangor. “Unlike the previous event, which was attended by approximately 23,000 visitors, MASITF 2016 is expected to attract 50,000 visitors with transactions amounting to RM10 million,” he said. Selangor Tourism General Manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din said that each waterfall has its own pond that is beautiful and suitable for swimming and water activities. She further added that Tourism Selangor will intensify its promotion based on market demand, and study the preferred product desired by tourists. “Eco-tourism in Selangor has continued to prosper. We have even received a project to increase tourism in Hutan Lipur Kancing. “The area is becoming the focus of international tourists, especially from the Middle East who come and see its uniqueness for themselves,” she told SelangorKini at the Tourism Selangor Open House at the Grand Ballroom of De Palma Hotel, Shah Alam, here, on August 4. Hutan Lipur Kanching is located at Kanching Forest Reserve, which is approximately 2 kilometres from Templer Park.
