Batu Tiga tradition reveals true ‘qurban’ meaning to the youth

BY: ERMIZI MUHAMAD
BATU TIGA, SEP 12: The ‘qurban’ tradition is done in Batu Tiga constituency as an initiative to commemorate the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Prophet Ismail.
Batu Tiga Assemblyman Rodziah Ismail said that the event should not end there but more exposure should be given on the aspect of worship in the ritual to the community particularly the youth.
“Usually the elder or senior generation are the ones who are involved in issues relating to acts of worship. Hence, participation from the youth is much needed through programmes such as this.

“They need to be taught and exposed from a young age in order for them to continue the tradition that we have been practising.
“The main thing is that the young generation need to be educated from as early as possible so that this process becomes the best example for them in the future,” she said to SelangorKini during the Majlis Qurban DUN Batu Tiga at the carpark area of Apartment Fasa II at Seksyen 17.
At the ceremony, six cows were sacrificed and four out of that were contributed by DUN Batu Tiga service centre.
“In the nine years of my duty, this is the fifth year that we are doing this and we can see the positive response from the people. The tradition continues in this residential area besides being held at all mosques in the Batu Tiga constituency.
“This approach is taken to encourage participation from the community for our mutual benefit,” she said.
Meanwhile, several portions of the meat from the sacrifice were distributed accordingly to the poor, orphans and other eligible recipients in the constituency.
