SHAH ALAM, OCT 10: The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has established the Pasukan Tindakan Segera (Skuad Pantas) to provide preliminary reports to the security team on flood situations.
MPK has said in a statement that the team is on a 24-hours standby to face the flood and will act as a support team in case of any emergency.
“MPK is prepared at any time to create temporary portable-posts in affected areas to help victims in terms of safety and logistics.
“MPK is also actively cleaning and digging up rubbish in all drains in the district in preparation for floods,” the council said.
At the same time, enforcement agencies are regularly monitoring flood-prone areas with Closed Circuit Camera (CCTV) by Unit CCTV MPK at 76 locations.
In addition, the council said the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department has directed all Bomba in the state to ensure all their assets that will be used in flood operations are in good condition; besides patrolling and monitoring flood-prone areas.
“In the event of flood, all the 24 MPK multi-purpose halls will be turned into evacuation centres for victims,” the council’s statement read.
As of now, there are 414 relief centres throughout the state which are opened 24-hours a day to accommodate victims of the high tide phenomenon.
The Selangor State Secretary’s Office had confirmed earlier in a statement that the high tide phenomenon will reccur from October 16 to 21.
Among anticipated affected areas are Klang, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam.
