MPS close to achieving assessment tax target

BY HAFIZAN TAIB
SELAYANG, SEP 28: Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) managed to collect RM73.53 million in assessment tax until August 31.
Its Yang Dipertua, Suliman Abd Rahman said that is 73.22 percent out of the targeted RM100.42 million.
He said, the number recorded is gratifying as the local authority is almost reaching its target set for this year.
“Meanwhile for collection of tax in arrears, the amount is RM5.27 million which is 58.66 percent from the total arrears of RM8.98 million.
“We are also confiscating the properties of owners who fail to settle their assessment tax after the due date with 2,214 confiscations done up to last August 31,” he said at the MPS Full Meeting yesterday.

He said that MPS had also issued notices (E Form) to owners who still have outstanding payment on September 1 which will expire on September 30, with a warrant of RM100 to those who fail to pay within that period.
Suliman said, the local authority was also audited by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH) last September 19.
“The result showed that MPS needs to improve and renew existing policies consistent with employees’ needs,” he said.
