KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin today questioned the move by Housing and Local Government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin in filing a motion to refer him to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.
This was due to Bung’s vulgar outburst on Aug 7, when he dropped the ‘F Bomb’ in the August House.
Bung said the matter is unfair, as there are also lawmakers from the government side that have uttered harsh words in Dewan Rakyat but was not required to face the music.
“If the government truly wants to take action then do it together. Refer to the hansard and lump all MPs that have said inappropriate phrases and file a motion against them altogether.”
“No taking sides. Just because I’m too outspoken, not on their side, they want to act as they please. This is an unfair behaviour shown by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) to deny my rights,” he said.
Bung added, the motion filed against him also made no sense, as this suggested that lawmakers from the government side did not endorse the Speaker’s ruling.
“The government wants to overrule the Dewan Rakyat Speaker. During that time, both deputy and the Speaker himself have endorsed that I apologize and retract my statement, which I did sincerely.”
“But today I saw a motion from the government… That’s why I feel that the Speaker must be firm in determining the direction of this Dewan Rakyat and its future,” he said during a conference in Parliament.
Previously, Bung became the latest addition to lawmakers who had uttered vulgarity in the August house when he said ‘F*** Y**’ on the mic during the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
This followed a similar case the day before when PH Jelutong MP RSN Rayer had uttered ‘kepala bapak’ (your father’s head) as an insult to BN Larut MP Hamzah Zainudin.
It lead to a furore in the Dewan, which prompted BN Lipis MP Abdul Rahman Mohamad to have used an even more vulgar insult (p******) but not on the mics.
