Hawker centre faces 70 pct loss due to Covid-19 fake news

PUCHONG, March 3 — A hawker centre here claims to have faced 70 per cent losses the past few days due to coronavirus-related fake news that had caused people to distance themselves from the food court centre.

Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the Health Ministry (MOH) had conducted checks on the hawker centre, Everyday Food Court, and confirmed it to be clear from Covid-19.

“For the past four days, an alert has been shared on social media claiming that a couple who were infected with Covid-19 had just returned from Italy and visited several areas in Puchong, including the said food court.

“The owner of the food court had lodged a police report and notified MOH to inspect the premises,” he told a press conference here today.

Also present was Subang Jaya Zone 16 councillor Yap Kok Weng.

Meanwhile, Yap said that he had never received any complaints on the hawker centre since it began operating 18 years ago.

“The food court is one of the oldest here and it offers various types of food. The hawkers always prioritise the cleanliness of the food stalls,” he said.
