Covid-19 cases exceed 3,100, death toll at 50

SHAH ALAM, April 1 — Malaysia recorded its highest daily record of recovery from Covid-19 as of noon today, with a total 122 cases.

This brings the total of recovered and discharged patients to 767, or 24.6 per cent out of the total number of cases.

However, with the increase of 208 new positive Covid-19 patients, the total number of cases in the country had added up to 3,116 cases.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said five Covid-19 fatalities were reported, bringing the death toll in the country to 50, or 1.6 per cent out of the total number of cases.

“A total of 105 positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 54of them require respiratory aid,” he told the media today in a broadcasted daily briefing on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya, today.

The reported five deaths are as follow:

  • Case 2,909: A 37-year-old Malaysian man, who had a history of chronic illness and low immunity. He had received treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor on March 28. He was pronounced dead on March 31 at 11.10 am.
  • Case 2,910: A 78-year-old Malaysian man with a history of high blood pressure and gout. He had received treatment at the Sultanah Fatimah Hospital in Johor on March 17. He was pronounced dead on March 29 at 7.10 pm.
  • Case 2,572: An 85-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems. He had received treatment at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Johor on March 29. He was pronounced dead on April 2 at 8.01 am.
  • Case 1,273: A 61-year-old Malaysian man who had close contact with a positive Covid-19 patient (case 2,107). He had received treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital on March 20. He was pronounced dead on April 1 at 8.36 pm.
  • Case 1,767: A 69-year-old Malaysian man who was treated at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Negri Sembilan on March 22. He was pronounced dead on April 2 at 2.20 pm.
