Menara KL to light up in blue and yellow to celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — The Kuala Lumpur Tower (Menara KL) will be lit up in blue and yellow – the colours of Ukraine’s national flag – on Monday in celebration of Ukraine’s 29th Independence Day.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia, in a statement to Bernama, said the event is part of the programme, including online programmes, planned worldwide to mark the occasion.

“Because of the Covid-19, we cannot hold our usual celebrations involving mass gatherings. That is why we wanted to find a new, creative way to mark this day. We are going to launch a lot of online events and invite all the people around the world to join us – it continues.

“We are very grateful to the management of Menara KL for helping us to mark our Independence Day in such a unique way,” the statement said.

On Sunday night, Menara KL was also lit in blue and yellow to mark Ukraine’s National Flag Day.

Ukraine gained independence from Soviet rule on Aug 24, 1991.
