SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — The Selangor government is prepared for an extension of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) that is scheduled to end tomorrow.
Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state acknowledges that the Federal government has the power to enforce the CMCO based on the current Covid-19 situation.
“Selangor has its own stance, yet the Federal government has the power to enforce it based on the latest orders. It is better if the decision (CMCO extension) is made to curb activities that could lead to the spread of Covid-19, thus the state government is ready for any possibilities,” said Amirudin when met after undergoing a Covid-19 screening at the State Secretariat Building here today.
The CMCO was enforced in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya from October 14 to 27 following a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said 1,200 people including state assemblymen and officials, including journalists, have undergone the Covid-19 screening in preparation for the Selangor Legislative Assembly scheduled to convene on Friday.
He said the move was to ensure the session runs smoothly and comfortably in line with the standard operating procedure (SOP) to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
“As long as we are threatened by the Covid-19 and there are no vaccines, this is the reality we must adhere to and we must abide by the SOP.
“The people must stay vigilant with the rising cases in several sub-districts (mukim) and localities until we find a remedy or vaccine,” said Amirudin.
