Covid-19: 266 new cases in Selangor, new cluster in Petaling

SHAH ALAM, Nov 28 — Selangor has today recorded 266 new Covid-19 local cases and one imported case, out of the daily nationwide total of 1,315 cases.

The single imported case was registered in Sabak Bernam.

“Sabah still records the highest daily new cases at 476 cases (36.2 per cent), where 406 (85.3 per cent) of that total were from existing clusters and close contact-tracing of positive Covid-19 cases that were carried out at the airport.

“This is followed by Selangor with 266 new cases (20.2 per cent) and Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur with 191 new infections (14.5 per cent),” said Health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

He said one new cluster, the UD SS2 Cluster, was identified in Petaling out of six new clusters that emerged today.

“The UD SS2 Cluster involves the Petaling district in Selangor. The index case (case number 61,360) was found positive for Covid-19 on November 27 via a screening for symptomatic individuals. As of November 28, 40 individuals have been screened, where 13 cases were tested positive,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said out of the new 266 new cases in Selangor, 177 were from existing clusters including nine from the new UD SS2 Cluster, 65 cases from close-contact screenings, one imported case and 23 from other Covid-19 health screenings.

According to the data by the Selangor State Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the Klang district tops the list with the highest new daily infections with 173 cases.

This is followed by Petaling with 33 new Covid-19 cases, Hulu Langat (28), Kuala Langat (19), and Sepang and Gombak (both recorded 5 cases each).

Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor recorded one new case each.

As of noon today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor stands at 13,295 out of the nationwide total of 63,176 new cases.
