Covid-19: Selangor records 829 new infections

SHAH ALAM, Dec 11 — Selangor sees a downtrend in the total new Covid-19 cases registered in the state with 829 cases out of the total 1,810 daily infections recorded nationwide today.

Yesterday, the state reported a four-digit upsurge in new cases at 1,428.

In a statement today, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said almost half or 45.8 per cent of the total cases reported nationwide were recorded in Selangor.

“Selangor still recorded the highest number in new cases at 829, where 685 of the total infections are from existing clusters and close contact screening operations.

“This is followed by Sabah with 532 cases and Kuala Lumpur at 132,” the statement read.

Dr Noor Hisham said the daily infections in Selangor include 616 from existing clusters, 69 from close contact screening, eight imported transmissions, and the remaining 136 from other Covid-19 screenings.

He said out of the six new clusters detected today, two had emerged in Selangor, namely the Sungai Putus Cluster and Erima Clusters. A total of 390 new cases registered in the state today were from the two new clusters.

“The Sungai Putus Cluster involves a workplace in Klang, whereby the cases were confirmed positive on December 9 from a targetted screening operation at a factory. A total of 2,001 individuals were screened and 427 cases were found positive, involving nine locals and 418 foreigners.

“The Emina Cluster also involves a workplace in Gombak through the screening of a symptomatic individual who had tested positive on December 7. A screening carried out by the employer found 28 more individuals tested positive who were close contacts with the index case. A total of 83 people were screened and 29 were found positive,” he said.

Meanwhile, another new cluster, the Jalan College Cluster, involves Seremban in Negeri Sembilan and the Petaling district. A total of 35 individuals have been screened and 11 were confirmed positive for Covid-19.

Dr Noor Hisham said 373 people have recovered from the coronavirus in Selangor out of the 937 recoveries registered today.

The accumulated total in Selangor stands at 19,789 out of the cumulative figure of positive cases in the country of 80,309.
