Exco: Strictly monitor quarantined individuals to curb Covid-19 spread

By Sheeda Fathil

SHAH ALAM, Jan 11 — A stringent monitoring system of individuals placed under quarantine must be implemented immediately to ensure that the group adheres to the standard operating procedure (SOP).

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the alternative measure, aside from the re-implementation of the movement control order (MCO), would be able to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

“We should try to avoid the MCO 2.0 as it would affect the economy and instead replace it with other methods, including expanding the targeted screening operations,” Ng told SelangorKini today.

He also reminded the public to be more serious in observing the SOP following a worrying upsurge in cases, especially in Selangor.

The Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to deliver a special address at 6pm today, which will be broadcasted live on local television stations and via social media platforms.

The nationwide MCO was first enforced on March 18 to curb the spread of the coronavirus and was then replaced with the conditional movement control order (CMCO) on May 4.
