MB: Selangor in talks with several vaccine manufacturers

SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — The Selangor government is currently in discussion with several undisclosed vaccine manufacturers as the state plans to purchase five million doses of Covid-19 vaccine for its people, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In an interview with MalaysiaKini, the Selangor Menteri Besar said the state administration’s vaccination plans would depend on the final outcome from the negotiations held with the different parties.

He said the various options will be deliberated by a special committee led by Selangor Health, Women and Family Empowerment exco Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud together with several members from the Selangor Task Force Covid-19 (STFC).

“They have to present based on cost, effectiveness and suitability. For example, the Pfizer vaccine requires two doses, while another only requires one.

“These are the issues being discussed and there are details that I must further discuss with the health minister in order for us to gain approval to use the vaccines,” Amirudin was quoted by the news portal today.

Putrajaya’s vaccination programme will be implemented in phases over a period of 12 months, with the first batch expected to begin in March.

Amirudin had on January 18 stated the state administration’s plans to purchase the vaccine for its people and the effort was welcomed by Putrajaya and the Health Ministry.
