SHAH ALAM, Aug 30 — Several areas in Selangor placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) had ended ahead of schedule due to the cooperation between the Federal and state governments, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Menteri Besar said different parties’ involvement, including the state assemblymen, in the fight against Covid-19, had proven to be beneficial.
“Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), so far the EMCOs enforced in Selangor had run smoothly and had ended earlier than the initial two-week period in several areas, compared to the EMCO in Sungai Lui (Hulu Langat), which lasted almost a month.
“The EMCOs in Selangor had mostly ended about five to eight days ahead of schedule. This shows the effectiveness in the collaboration and involvement of all parties,” Amirudin told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly in response to a question by Sentosa state assemblyman Dr Gunarajah George on the Covid-19 management.
Among the localities placed under the EMCO this year that had ended earlier include Pangsapuri Damai PJS8 in Damansara (a week earlier), Gugusan Semarak and PJU 5 in Kota Damansara (five days earlier) and Flat Taman Samudera Timur in Gombak (three days earlier).
On March 30 last year, seven villages in Hulu Langat were placed under the two-week enhanced movement restriction until April 13, 2020, following the 71 positive Covid-19 cases identified among 274 residents of the Maahad Tahfiz AnNabawiyyah school at Batu 23.
The EMCO had ended as scheduled except for the Tahfiz school and a house at Batu 23, Kampung Paya Lebar, Sungai Lui, where the restrictions were extended until April 28, 2020.
The EMCO at the Tahfiz school was then extended by another week to May 5.
