More than 360,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered under Selvax

SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — A total of 367,599 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to the adult population in the state under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) as of August 22, says Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

The state executive councillor for public health said the state initial target was to vaccinate 250,000 individuals in Selangor involving 500,000 doses under the Selvax Community.

While Selvax Industry targeted to vaccinate 1 million workers in the state using 2 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“As of August 22, a total of 224,880 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered under Selvax Community, with remaining doses at 275,120.

“While for Selvax Industry, a total of 142,719 doses have been administered out of the 750,000 doses that have been provided and purchased, thus leaving the remaining doses at 607,281,” she told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

Dr Siti Mariah said this when answering joint oral questions on Selvax from assemblymen Muhammad Hilman Idham (Gombak Setia), R Rajiv (Bukit Gasing), Leong Tuck Chee (Pandamaran), Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin (Sungai Panjang), Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias (Sungai Burong) and Chua Wei Kiat (Rawang).

She explained that even though the state initially planned to purchase 2.5 million doses but it only acquired 1.25 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

As for plans on the remaining 882,401 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine still unused, Dr Siti Mariah said the state has laid out four plans.

“Selgate will continue with the selling of the vaccine for immunisation through its Selcare network of panel clinics. Also, Selvax will use the stock to prepare for the third booster shot if needed.

“Selvax will also keep the stock for plans to vaccinate those aged under 18-year-old pending approval from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).

“Also the state government use it to continue giving free vaccination to those who have yet to receive the vaccine through its outreach programme using mobile buses,” she said.

Answering a supplementary question on the total cost of the purchase of the vaccine from Bukit Gasing state assemblyman R Rajiv, Dr Siti Mariah said it was at RM127 million.

“The state government spent RM127 million to purchase the 1.25 million Covid-19 doses. RM100 million is a state loan to Selgate, while RM30 million comes from PKNS.

“But the total cost for Selvax have yet to be calculated as it has to include the payment for the doctors that administered it as well as the cost to set up the vaccination centres (PPVs),” she said.

In June, the Selangor government had launched the Selvax Industry and Selvax Selvax Community initiatives as an approach to complete and expedite the vaccination process for its people.
