KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21 — The Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2021 has exceeded its targeted number of visitors since it commenced on Thursday (November 18), says Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.
The state executive councillor for trade and investment said the annual event had recorded over 15,000 visitors this year, which had reached more than 50 per cent of the 10,000 target set by Invest Selangor Berhad (Invest Selangor).
“We also expect to see an increase in transaction value. The highest record achieved was RM200 million in 2019. We hope there would be a promising development,” said Teng when met after the handover ceremony of recognition certificate by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR), here today.
SIBS 2019 had achieved a transaction value of RM447.3 million, which included RM200 million from the Malaysia-China Entrepreneur Conference that was not organised by SIBS.
Earlier, the annual regional summit had earned a place in the MBOR as the first state to have hosted the largest business event this year.
Teng said the achievement is a push factor for Selangor to move forward and strengthen its position as the next Asean gateway and to achieve its vision to become a global trading hub.
The fifth edition of the state government-backed conference and exhibition themed as ‘Selangor the Gateway to Asean’ brings together global brands and congregating industry players from around the world.
The physical event, which began on November 18 and ends today, features about 500 booths and can be accessed virtually via www.selangorbusinesshub.my, which showcases nearly 800 booths.
A total of RM11 million was allocated for the whole development and management of the hybrid summit.
