Selangor spends RM78 mln every year on educational programmes — MB

By Norrasyidah Arshad

PETALING JAYA, Feb 14 — A total of RM78 million has been allocated every year to implement various educational initiatives for the people in Selangor, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the programmes cover various walks of life regardless of race and religion.

He said independent Chinese schools were also included as education is seen as a priority and is essential for all.

“Since 2016, we have disbursed RM500,000 every year to ensure (the continuity) of the independent schools.

“But we do not only help Chinese schools. We have allocated a total of RM24 million to help 405 religious primary schools, more than 114 Chinese vernacular schools or SJK(C), and over 90 Tamil schools or SJK(T) in the state,” said Amirudin in his speech during the PKR Chinese New Year dinner event last night.

Also present were PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and party leaders.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said all of the aid and support channelled to the people in the state is done after weighing out the importance and priority.

“The assistance is not only for the elections. It is not to get sympathy, but it follows the direction (of the state).

“Selangor is a family, and every move we make is for everyone. When I was appointed the Menteri Besar, the party (PKR) leadership had advised that I become a Menteri Besar for all,” he said.

Last December, Amirudin had handed over a fund totalling RM24 million to help restore the infrastructures of 637 schools in the state.

The total figure includes RM9.3 million for Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA), RM9 million for SJK(C) and RM4.5 for SJK(T).
