SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) will begin distributing RM28,637,750 to 62,769 asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) group and converts to Islam (mualaf) throughout the state starting today.
LZS Asnaf Distribution Operation Division head Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the distribution is to help the groups make early preparations to celebrate the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and Syawal.
“Of that amount, RM9,063,050 goes to 18,630 asnaf fakir (hardcore poor), RM18,250,400 to 39,955 asnaf miskin (poor) and RM1,322,300 will be given to 4,184 converts.
“Each recipient will receive zakat assistance of between RM300 to RM1,000 depending on the number of dependents in the family,” he said.
Mohd Sabirin was speaking at the 2022 Ramadan and Syawal Aid Distribution programme at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah earlier today.
The symbolic aid handover was completed by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council’s (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
Mohd Sabirin added the assistance will be channelled and credited into recipients’ bank accounts starting today.
“If they have problems with their bank accounts, we will deliver the aid via cash vouchers or directly to recipients,” he said.
