SDE crash : Van driver has no valid driving licence

KOTA TINGGI, May 24 — The van driver who made a sudden U-turn and caused an accident at KM 59.7 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway(SDE) here, which went viral on social media, was found driving without a valid licence.

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Hussin Zamora said the accident which happened at 2.55pm on Sunday was believed to have occurred when the driver of a Ford Econovan van, a 33-year-old Myanmar man, suddenly made an illegal U-turn.

As a result, the Honda HRV car approaching Senai to Desaru could not stop in time and hit the left rear side of the van.

“The 29-year-old female driver ended with swollen lips and bruises on her hands while her two-year-old daughter had bruises on the face and left eye. The man, however, was unhurt and went on driving to KM60 to continue his grass cutting task,” he said in a statement.

“The van driver’s statement has been recorded and he has been issued with two summonses,” he said adding the case was still under investigation.

Earlier, a one-minute dashcam video recording, showing a van making an illegal U-turn before a crash happened, followed by the sound of a child shrieking, was shared widely on social media.
