SHAH ALAM, May 17 — Taman Medan state assemblyman Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri plans to introduce a takaful protection scheme for residents in his constituency that covers possible disasters.
He said the insurance scheme will be handled by a certain organisation that charges low premium rates but gives a higher payout.
“Two flood incidents had occurred in the Taman Medan area, on December 18, 2021, and March 7 this year, that affected more than 3,000 families. Similarly, several fires broke out that resulted in heavy losses to the affected residents.
“Taking into account all these factors, we feel it is necessary to implement a takaful insurance scheme. This matter will be submitted to the relevant parties and Insya Allah (God willing) will receive cooperation from the residents,” he told Selangorkini.
On another note, he said they will start implementing contributions from small traders on a voluntary basis to the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
“This effort aims to improve the living standards of the group in line with the desire to improve the quality of services for the benefit of the people,” he said.
