SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The district of Hulu Selangor can expect to see heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms until 4pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement released at 1.25pm, the agency said inclement weather is also expected in several parts of Perak (Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Kuala Krai), Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub and Bentong).
It also forecasted similar weather patterns for other states and areas in Sarawak: Kuching, Betong, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro) and Miri (Miri), as well as in Sabah: Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud).
MetMalaysia issues a warning when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm/hour which are expected to occur over the one-hour duration.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term and are valid within six hours after it was issued.
