First Selangor Plan to enable faster 30 pct contribution to GDP target by state — MB

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Aug 2 — The First Selangor Plan (RS-1) will enable the state to contribute 30 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said although the 2022 Selangor Budget tabled last year set the target to be reached by 2030, the implementation of RS-1 will help expedite it to 2025.

“Last year Selangor contributed 25 per cent to the country’s GDP and before that, it was 24.8 per cent, 24.3 per cent, 24.1 per cent dan 23.7 per cent. On average it rose 0.5 per cent each year.

“From a conservative view, Selangor would only be able to contribute 27 per cent by 2025, but with RS-1 and the supporting programmes in planning, it can reach up to 30 per cent by 2025,” he said during the RS-1 winding-up session at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

The plan, tabled by Amirudin on July 27, takes into account the implementation aspects of the comprehensive policies, projects and initiatives between the state and the Federal government.

Amirudin, who is also Sungai Tuan state assemblyman, said Selangor’s efforts will not set aside the five-year planning under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) which is still ongoing and bringing an impact to the state.

He added that RS-1 is designed to deal with major global challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine War as well as the Cold War between China and the United States.
