MetMalaysia: Strong weather continues in Klang Valley until 7pm

SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The strong weather earlier predicted for Klang Valley continues, as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 7pm today.

In a statement issued at 3.55pm, it said other states that are also affected included Perlis and Perak.

The agency also expected similar weather condition in several areas within the states of Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik and Baling), Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan and Rompin), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau), Johor (Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru), Sarawak: Serian, Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong, Miri (Subis) and Limbang, and Sabah: Sandakan (Kinabatangan).

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
