SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — Five areas in Selangor are predicted to experience thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy showers until 2pm today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a statement issued at 11.25am, the agency said the involved districts are Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.
“Other states and areas that will be similarly affected are Perlis, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda), Pahang (Bentong), Johor (Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru) as well as Sarawak (Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Kapit,” said the agency on Facebook.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
