SHAH ALAM, Sept 28 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms for over half of Selangor’s districts.
In a statement issued at 1.45pm, it said the districts include Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
“Other states and territories which will be affected include Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Perak (Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman) and Pahang (Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin).
“Also affected is Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin), Melaka (Alor Gajah and Jasin), Johor (Tangkak, Segamat and Mersing), Sarawak: Kuching (Bau and Lundu), Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Sarikei (Julau) and Sibu (Kanowit) and Sabah: Tawau (Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Kinabatangan)
The weather is expected to persist until 5pm.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
