SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — Selangor’s economic performance has improved after 2018 due to the teamwork of its state leaders, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
In response to allegations by former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali that the state’s economy is on a decline, Amirudin said that the state under his administration had contributed 24.8 per cent of the national gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021 compared to 23.2 per cent in 2017.
“Since he (Azmin) left Selangor, the state’s economic performance has improved, the GDP contribution to Malaysia has increased and welfare programmes benefitting the people have also increased,” he wrote on Twitter last night, responding to the allegations made by the International Trade and Industry Senior Minister.
Appointed after Azmin resigned in 2018, Amirudin asserted that Selangor has continued to progress and had introduced more welfare programmes for the people.
“Selangor’s prosperity is not the result of one individual’s success but a team effort,” he explained.
Briefly commenting on a news article online, Amirudin also attached a graph showcasing Selangor’s rise in GDP contributions of 23.7 per cent in 2018, 24.2 per cent (2019) and 24.3 per cent (2020).
“(The graph) to him (Azmin) means a decline,” Amirudin added cynically in his post.
