High-tech paper factory in Kuala Langat offers over 200 jobs

KUALA LANGAT, Oct 28 — The opening of the GS Paperboard and Packaging Sdn Bhd’s (GSPP) Paper Machine 3 (PM3) paper factory, owned by Oji Holdings Corporation, is offering over 200 job opportunities to the locals, here.

Group president and chief executive officer Hiroyuki Isono said the project worth RM1.2 billion started its commercial manufacturing in April, which would generate more economic activities for the local community.

“Since we acquired GSSP in 2010, Oji continues to invest in Malaysia as part of the strategy to solidify our position as the largest paper manufacturer as well as packaging and paper-related products in the country.

“To date, Oji has grown in Malaysia and operates in 18 locations. The PM3 was developed with the most cutting-edge paper production equipment to further boost our operations in the sector.

“What’s more important are the employment opportunities for locals, which would support the local economy,” he said in a speech during the launch of the plant, here yesterday.

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj officiated had graced the launching event of the plant, accompanied by Her Royal Highness the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, and His Highness the Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

Also present were Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amiruidin Shari, state executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim and Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Takahashi Katsuhiko.

Meanwhile, Hiroyuki said PMS is a long-term project that can produce light mass and quality paper.

“Packaging boxes are also made using paper production without compromising quality in keeping with GSSP’s goal to conserve natural resources.

“Boxes made of testliner and medium paper are in demand by box packaging users,” he said.

Since its establishment in 1873, Oji has grown into a well-known global integrated manufacturer of pulp, paper, and paper-related products.
