Thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds until 7pm — MetMalaysia

SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat until 7pm today.

In a statement issued at 4.30pm, it said that similar weather conditions are expected in Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan, Bera and Rompin) and Johor (Mersing).

“Meanwhile, in Sarawak the inclement weather will affect Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Mukah (Matu, Dalat and Mukah) and Kapit (Song and Kapit).

“As for Sabah, similar conditions are expected at Tawau (Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sandakan),” the agency said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
