SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat are forecasted to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 9pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia.
In a warning issued at 4.55pm on Facebook, the agency said that the inclement weather is also anticipated throughout Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.
“Meanwhile, stormy weather is also expected in Kedah (Kota Setar, Yan, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Maran and Kuantan), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin) and Johor (Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru).
“Similar weather conditions are forecasted for Sarawak: Kuching (Kuching), Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu), Mukah, Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Beluru and Telang Usan) and Limbang as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat, Sandakan (Tongod, Kinabatangan and Beluran) and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Pitas),” it said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
