PETALING JAYA, Jan 12 — The majority of hawkers and food traders in areas under the Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) jurisdiction have complied with its directive to wear face masks, following its mandatory usage on January 1.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said there are no official figures yet, but based on his visit to food premises, the food operators were found to be adhering to the instructions.
“I do not have official figures on how many people are in compliance with this order, but from my visit to the stalls and eateries, they have obeyed,” he said.
Mohamad Azhan was speaking at the handover ceremony of RM250 in aid to 60 underprivileged families for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, at Dewan MBPJ SS3/14 in Taman Sentosa yesterday.
Earlier on, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari suggested that local authorities in Selangor gradually enforce the wearing of face masks among food operators, in stages.
He said doing so would increase customers’ confidence when it comes to the food preparation and serving process among operators and traders.
