Not all water pollution incidents lead to water cuts — Air Selangor

SHAH ALAM, March 30 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), along with the Selangor Water Management Board (Luas), have taken swift action to address the state’s raw water source pollution.

Air Selangor acting chief executive officer Abas Abdullah said that the state agency would immediately notify Luas, which is in charge of Selangor’s river basins, of any pollution incidents.

He stated that managing water pollution issues is challenging, and the state agency must take an active role in carrying out its primary duties.

“We would notify Luas when water pollution was detected. However, water supply disruption wouldn’t occur in every circumstance.

“For example, in 2022, there were 53 pollution cases reported but out of the total, only eight had caused water cuts,” said Abas in the Agenda Awani programme titled “Water Sustainability: What is Air Selangor’s Plan” (Kelestarian Air: Apa ‘Plan’ Air Selangor).

He further explained that based on records, 94 pollution cases were reported in 2020 and 67 cases in 2021.

With that, Abas urged that everyone must play a part in preserving the nation’s water ecosystem for it to be sustainable.

“Every drop matters,” he added.
