Do not be swayed by false narratives, Amirudin tells voters

GOMBAK, July 31 – Selangor Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged Selangor voters not to be swayed by the false narratives raised by Perikatan Nasional.

He also reminded the people of the opposition’s poor handling of the country while in power during the pandemic.

“They (PN) are trapped in their own bubble. They think they are so great, but when they were in power, it was them who shut the doors of democracy.

“They are the ones who denied the voice of the people. So don’t be swayed by their false narratives,” he said at the Jelajah Madani ceramah event in Kampung Bahtera, here last night.

Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, stated that the ruling party had done well in administering the state, with Selangor contributing 25.5 per cent to the national economy.

He said the state has also launched various people-oriented programmes, including sales of discounted essential goods that have benefited over four million people.

Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) deputy president Rafizi Ramli has thrown flak against the PN leadership, questioning whether they intend to run Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan in a subpar manner if they win the three states in the upcoming state polls.

During the ceramah, Rafizi raised the “poor management” of the PN-held states Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah and that the Opposition leaders lack credible solutions or proven track records in governance.

“PN can talk up a whirlwind. What can you do for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Kedah that you wanted to take over these states so badly?

“We have seen the results in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah. Your records show that the people continue to have a poor quality of life.

“In fact, many of the youths, especially those from Kelantan, are coming to Selangor to work. Selangor’s achievements speak for themselves,” he said.

Rafizi, who is also the Economy Minister, said he was “amused” by the alleged narratives thrown against the Unity Government that it lacks economic direction and the people are experiencing the worst cost of living issues since post-pandemic.

In response to the claims made by PN leaders, Rafizi argued that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s tenure as prime minister showed their inability to govern the nation, citing the poor handling of the country’s economy during the pandemic as an example of their inefficiencies.

He also stated he is ready to debate the PN leaders, including Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman, on how to develop the national economy.

Sanusi had previously rejected the offer, but Rafizi disclosed that Syahir had yet to respond to the letter of invitation he sent yesterday for the debate.

While acknowledging that politicians often use rhetoric during campaigns, Rafizi cautioned the politicians against misleading the people.

“It is fine if you want to criticise me or the prime minister but at the very least do not fool the people,” he said, adding that facts, especially economic indicators have shown that the country’s economy is slowly recovering.

Voters in Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, will head to the polls on August 12 for the 15th state assembly elections with early voting on August 8.
