SHAH ALAM, July 11 — Economic excellence, the tabling of realistic state budgets and the roll-out of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) are among the five most significant achievements recorded by the state throughout the past term, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman said despite five challenging years that provided the state administration with valuable experiences and lessons, the leadership has proven it is capable of planning for both the present and future.

“Let’s instil the spirit of Kita Selangor, and let us continue for another five years,” he said in a short video clip uploaded to his Facebook page last night.

Elaborating on the quintet of state achievements, Amirudin said Selangor has continuously recorded economic growth that surpasses the national rate.

He said in 2022, the state’s growth of 11.9 per cent was far higher than Malaysia’s 8.7 per cent, while Selangor contributed 25.5 per cent of the national gross domestic product, the highest on record.

Amirudin also expressed delight over the budget surplus recorded by the state since 2020. The state saw its reserves significantly improve from RM2.1 billion in 2018 to RM3.4 billion this year.

“Thirdly, we introduced five realistic and achievable budgets, as well as five stimulus packages in view of various crises.”

Amirudin highlighted the RS-1 roll-out as another major milestone achieved during his tenure as Menteri Besar. The five-year plan features over 200 projects costing more than RM200 billion.

It is meant to ensure Selangor remains the country’s economic hub while increasing the state’s revenue and its people’s income, he said.

“Finally, the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang welfare programme was introduced by the state government to benefit seven million people in Selangor in various sectors. This was all planned and framed to ensure everyone can lead equitable and fair lives in Selangor.”
