MB: Harapan-BN best choice for Selangor, offers extensive state governance experience

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Despite its contentious past, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Pakatan Harapan and their new ally Barisan Nasional (BN) are the most formidable political coalition today to lead under the Unity Government, as they both uphold moderate political values.

Mirroring the composition of the Federal government, he said if given the mandate by the people, the coming state administration will include both Harapan and BN lawmakers.

“Both parties in Harapan and BN uphold the principles of moderate politics. Harapan consists of DAP, Keadilan, and Amanah, each presenting their own ideologies with a diverse mix of races and a similar composition. Similarly, BN, led by Umno, formed a coalition with representation from other races in parties like MIC and MCA.

“It is crucial to emphasise the importance of maintaining Selangor’s moderation. The state has faced challenges such as the pandemic, political upheaval, and a challenging economy,” said the Selangor Harapan chairman in his speech, during the Jelajah Madani ceramah in Bukit Melawati, Kuala Selangor last night.

Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, cautioned that the future of the state should not be jeopardised by individuals who are driven by greed and hunger for power, seeking to disrupt the state’s harmony.

“It is essential to be cautious of those who come with their own agendas and attempt to dictate how things should be done, as their intentions may disrupt the harmony we have worked hard to achieve,” he said.

Amirudin added that both Harapan and BN have an extensive track record of administration in Selangor, and said they present the best option to lead the state administration for another term.

“We (Harapan) have extensive experience in governing the state for the past 15 years, along with our friends in BN who have also contributed to the development of the state, as well as our good relationship with the Federal government.

InsyaAllah, we believe the people of the state, including those in Kuala Selangor, will continue to experience improvement and progress,’’ he said.

Amirudin is also optimistic that with all these factors, major infrastructure projects like the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) and the Light Transit Rail (LRT) can be extended and developed in places such as Kuala Selangor.

Meanwhile, he said Harapan aims to retain 33 out of the 56 state seats, which will enable the coalition to form the state administration without much difficulty.

“However, I have not included seven other marginal seats, where they won by less than 2,000 votes. There are also another 10 seats to be contested by BN. With all these factors in play, we could potentially secure up to 50 state seats,” Amirudin said.
