GOMBAK, July 29 — Selangor Menteri Besar and state Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari will face two other candidates in Sungai Tua as he bids to defend his seat in the state election.
Election Commission (EC) returning officer Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz announced that the incumbent assemblyman will go up against Perikatan Nasional’s Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin and independent candidate Suman Gopal.
Similarly in Gombak Setia, Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin will be involved in a three-cornered fight, returning officer Mohd Hasrul Hisham Abdullah announced.
He faces incumbent Muhammad Hilman Idham from PN and Salim Ali (independent).
Megat, who is Selangor Umno chief, vied for the seat in the 14th general election but finished last behind Hilman, who then contested under the Parti Keadilan Rakyat banner, and PAS’ Mohd Noor Mohd Shahar.
Meanwhile, in Hulu Kelang, returning officer Khairul Arzawati Khalid said Harapan’s Juwairiya Zulkifli will face former state menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in a straight battle.
Juwairiya, who is Amirudin’s political secretary, was previously the representative for the Bukit Melawati state seat.
Earlier in his morning, some 2,000 Harapan and BN supporters escorted Amirudin, Megat and Juwairiya to the nomination centre at SMK Sungai Pusu.
They were also joined by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, along with several other senior Unity Government leaders.
