5G Rahmah starts Aug 31, civil servants’ postpaid rebate launches Sept 16

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 29 — Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil today launched the 5G Rahmah and Civil Servants’ Rahmah postpaid packages.

The 5G Rahmah package is a basic data plan, offered from August 31 to December 31, which includes a smartphone priced under RM240, with a postpaid plan as low as RM60 per month and minimum 60GB data.

The Civil Servant Rahmah postpaid package features an RM10 monthly rebate fo a year for postpaid plans valued at RM60 and above from September 16.

Fahmi said the 5G Rahmah package launched today features a selection of smartphones such as the Samsung A14 5G and Honor 90 Lite 5G, which have the basic specifications under the 5G Rahmah package.

Telecommunication companies (telcos) are encouraged to provide even better offers.

“As an example, telcos can provide smartphones priced lower than RM240 or a monthly postpaid plan lower than RM60 or data quota higher than 60GB a month,” he said.

He said some telcos will offer 5G Rahmah packages from as low as RM35 a month for 100GB of data and a 5G device, while some will offer the devices for free.

He said via strategic cooperation between his ministry and smartphone makers Samsung and Honor, an additional warranty period of 12 months will be provided, which makes the total warranty period for the 5G Rahmah package 24 months — same as the contract period.

In line with Madani Economy, Fahmi said the 5G Rahmah package will be offered to 100,000 earliest customers from the B40 group at a subsidy of RM120 for the smartphone.

“For example, for a RM240 smartphone, an eligible subscriber need only pay RM120 for the device. If a telco offers a smartphone at a lower price than RM240, like RM200, the price the consumer pays after subsidy is only RM80,” he said.

He said the subsidy will apply to only one 5G Rahmah package per user.

Fahmi said the Civil Servants’ Rahmah postpaid incentive is subject to terms and conditions by telcos.

He said the incentive is not applicable for civil servants subscribed to group postpaid plans through ministries, departments, agencies, clubs and associations as these plans are already rebated.

The minister said these packages are offered in collaboration with CelcomDigi, Maxis, UMobile, Unifi Mobile and YTL Communications, as well as Samsung and Honor.
