MB confident Harapan-BN can secure two-thirds majority

GOMBAK, Aug 12 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is certain by 80 per cent the Unity Government coalition can achieve a two-thirds majority in today’s state election.

He said the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance is on course to secure between 40 to 41 of the 56 contested State Legislative Assembly seats.

“There is a 70 to 80 per cent likelihood of us forming the government, given the anticipated surge in voter turnout, especially within the Malay community. We aim to hold on to more than 41 seats.

“We have relentlessly been on the campaign trail for the past 12 to 13 days. Today marks a pivotal moment for the future of the state. We aspire to solidify our dominance with a two-thirds majority,” Amirudin said.

Earlier this morning the Menteri Besar and his wife, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, made their way to SJK(C) Selayang Baru, where they cast their votes for the Taman Templer seat at 8:24am.

Prior to the State Legislative Assembly’s dissolution on June 23, Harapan had a strong presence with 40 seats (PKR – 19, DAP – 15, Amanah – six). Meanwhile, BN held five, Bersatu had four, and Parti Bangsa Malaysia secured two. Other parties, namely PAS, Pejuang, and Warisan, each had a single-seat representation complemented by an Independent state assemblyman.

Furthermore, the Batang Kali seat was declared unoccupied on February 16, following the prolonged absence for over six months of its state assemblyman Harumaini Omar from Assembly sessions.
