Five Selangor areas record unhealthy air this evening

SHAH ALAM, Oct 18 — Five localities in Selangor are still recording unhealthy levels of air pollution as of 7pm, according to the Air Pollutant Index (API).

The Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) said these localities include Petaling Jaya at 153, Shah Alam at 126, Klang at 159, Banting at 131, and Johan Setia at 153.

Elsewhere, other localities recording unhealthy air pollution levels include Batu Muda at 118 and Cheras at 124, in the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory.

Tangkak in Johor also recorded unhealthy levels at 113.

16 APIMS stations nationwide recorded good air quality levels, while 44 stations recorded moderate air quality levels.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates the air quality is good, while 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.

API data is released hourly based on 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
